A spokesman for BW said: “Suggestions will be fed into Defra’s wider consultation, due to start shortly, about the formation of the charity.
“Firstly it is important that any prospective name shows that the charity is about ‘waterways’ or ‘canals and rivers’. Secondly the name/s should evoke a feeling amongst the wider public that waterways are a worthy cause and should therefore include the words ‘charity’ or ‘trust’.”
He urged people to put their suggestions forward by filling in a short online poll at
