High winds earlier in the week meant the transfer of essential damming equipment via crane between the locks has been delayed. This has now been carried out and event preparation work will continue over the remainder of the week, including Saturday.
British Waterways Project Manager Simon Hughes said the overrun was unavoidable.
“We hope this delay will not deter people from visiting on Sunday. In any event, our team will be on hand this Saturday, offering visitors a firsthand look at the work being undertaken and explaining exactly what is involved,” said Simon. “The work is now back on track, the watertight seal is being established and we hope to start draining the water out soon in readiness for the scaffolding to be installed,” he added. British Waterways would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause in making arrangements to visit the site.
